The history of Dominica is coloured by it geography. Sandwiched between the two French islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe,
it was prized by the French and finaly taken by the English.
Both built settlements and fortifications. Both founght against the skilled and fierce Caribs who many
times beat them off taking refuge in the ruggid terrance and attaching by suprise.
